Birch. Things for the Home, Heart & Soul

My mom and me checked out this little Antique/Home Decor shop on Amherst St, here in Nashua yesterday found a really cool salvaged door knob. It was a cute shop and I will definitely stop back in in the future. You can check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BirchNashua. Sadly don’t have a lot of pics because it was a quick outing for new shelves since my old ones kept fell one me (literally), and my Phone was being stupid.

Antiquing Adventure

Went antiquing yesterday, it was my day off and I decided to head out on an adventure. I’m supper excited to have found a chair for my BJD, Zandir as well as some great items for crafting. I met to really sweet ladies Adel & Charlotte at 101A Antique & Collectible center. I got the chair and bird card holder from them and they were nice enough to drop the price a bit on the card holder. Charlotte was also nice enough to run to her house to grab a bonnet to show me, it was out of my price range but I greatly appreciate the honor of seeing it and of talking with them. As promised I took plenty of picks of Zan on his new chair. I also snagged a few things at a barn sale including a tea set for Zan today before work.

Framing & Antiquing & Cosplay

Its been a while since I have posted, things have been super crazy. Right now I am busy preparing for Anime Boston. I haven’t been able to go to a con in a while so I’m excited to go, of course as usual I am well prepared and almost finished packing. I will be hopefully making posts during the con as I can’t go anywhere without my camera. I got a second part-time job as a framing specialist at A.C. Moore I can say I love it though now I have to fight the urge not to spend my entire paycheck on craft supplies. The extra money will definitely help and as always every job is a new chance to expand my skills and continue to grow. I love seeing the art work our customers get framed everything has a story and there are so many talented people to meet. Its a big responsibility to be entrusted with something so special to someone framing isn’t cheap so the customer has to really care about the piece. I love putting together a great design for their piece and its even better when I see the final results/ a happy customer. In other news we now have an absolutely lovely Antique shop in downtown Nashua called Glorious Possibilities I went in for the first time yesterday and then again today with my mother, who after I raved about it decided to check it out to. Its housed in what was an old library and houses a beautiful array of vintage clothing, antiques, home decor and handmade items. I am so happy to have it close bye and am even happier it is a good one.

Vintage finds: Vintage Photograph

Its been awhile since I have gone antiquing or thrifting but Thursday my grandmother and I went antiquing in downtown Laconia. I have been on the look out for old picture frames and was happy when I snagged a nice one for cheep. I also snagged an old photograph in a small metal frame. The photo caught my eye as I was purchasing the frame and I couldn’t pass it up.

Reminiscence & Road

Woke up early this morning and went out on a short road trip with my mémère to The Old Country Store and Museum in Moultonborough, NH. She loved the place and I had never been there so we drove up. The view of the lake was a beautiful sight as we drove along the winding road, the smell of winter, the smells of fires wafting up to my nose, being lulled into a sense of peace while listening to country music on the car radio. The store itself was also a sight, bringing both of us back in time to a childhood now past.  I walked around in awe loving the place instantly and in shock that my pépère hated going there and felt it a waste of precious time.

As we drove back home we continued to reminisce on our childhood and talk about whatever came to mind. A friend told her his son said we were going to get four feet of snow. The two of us highly doubt we will get anything let alone four feet but non the less this got us talking about the big snowstorm we had when I was around eight years of age. At the time my younger brother, my parents, and me lived with my mémère and pépère in Hudson. That year there was a bad snowstorm and we were without power for four days. (In my mind it seemed like weeks.) I recalled building up snow piles in which to store our food from the fridge. We kept our milk, eggs, meat and other perishables in the snow by the sliding door at the back of the house. We made sure to dig them in deep to keep animals out. We had a wood stove so we kept warm by it and used its flat top to cook food. I remember taking bread and placing it on top to toast it. She had oddly enough been talking to a friend last week about the event, though she forgot that it was us who had been there. She also found it amusing that I could remember the event. I am often amazed what I can remember from my childhood despite the fact I often forget what I had for breakfast.

It is fascinating to think of the events that will unless brain injury occurs, be forever ingrained in our minds. For her the fire at the farm when she was four and the time she dressed in Sunday best slipped beneath the ice and nearly drowned. For me these memories include the snowstorm, and my near drowning in the pond outside my house. (Apparently near drowning is a common occurrence.) Many of these are so ingrained in our minds because they are traumatic but even happy times are ingrained in our minds. I have fond memories of going crawfishing with my father and of jumping into bails of hay at the family farm. These memories we had fun looking back on in that car.
